I do think the evangelicals will be put off by his Mormonism, but not the fact that he is rich. So you are right it may dampen their enthusiasm to go vote.

Likewise, I think a bunch of young "lefts" who voted for Obama last time will also be sitting on their hands so the two groups could cancel each other out.

All you have to do is read the conservatives on PfP. At least half of them are sitting this election out if Romney's the nominee, for various reasons, religious, Romney's not a "real" conservative, Romney's a phony, etc. Watch how Romney does in the south - he seems like SUCH a slick yankee, I just can't see them becoming very enthused over him.

Chinu - Trust me- even thought the evangelicals do not want to support a mormon, they will in droves if this is the choice against Obama. Although the R field is not inspirational, whomever the choice, turnout will be very high as Obama for another 4 years as a lame duck is a worst case scenario.
