Once you make the decision that who someone can or can't or has to rent to, sell to, or otherwise conduct business with, is the proper subject of public policy, you give up a lot of freedom. That's why as much as I dislike unjust forms of discrimination, I'm against not just affirmative action laws, but even equal access laws (not equal access, or equal access policies, but the law forcing it on people). Of course say something like that in most places, and many think you racist, while smarter but less scrupulous people on the left, might recognize the motive is supporting freedom of association, not racism, or sexism (or prejudice against any other group), but they still call you a racist, because it gives them rhetorical ammunition against you.
