QE lowered interest rates by the Fed buying bonds. People tend to sell currencies with lower interest rates. But of course that isn't always true--if it was always true then the yen wouldn't be as strong as it has been. But it is true a lot of the time, if only as a knee jerk reaction short term.

You shouldn't confuse correlation with causation.

Truly disappointed that my last post did not generate ANY discussion .... really think the topic is hugely important to sort out ... and all the answers are not obvious ... at least to me.

Ahhhhh ! Guess that's the price one must pay for occupying the cellar of the Prestigious Guru of the Month contest ....

No matter, stumbled upon the following link which has some Excellent blogs and explains the cause for what REALLY happened at MF Global. Pretty scary scenario portrayed but it makes perfect sense and is entirely credible.
