"Excepting the walking on water he seemed like a rather contemplative guy who got used, abused and confused."

When we compare people such as Robin Hood, Jesus, and Hercules we come to appreciate that people can embody a very diverse set of attributes while being both good and bad. Jesus was terribly racist in the example of the Gentile woman and exhibited severe mental abnormalities in his one-sided pitched battle with the hapless fig tree who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. But Jesus could also be kind such as when he made extra wine at a nice wedding. In his parable about the ten virgins waiting for the bridegroom he did not make any extra lamp oil because they should have looked ahead. Weddings are different, however. Sometimes people over indulge. And Jesus was Johnny on the spot...

Now Robin could be very thoughtful and cunning of plan--often using deception to strike a blow for the good of the poor, the sick, and the afflicted. But he was not afraid to go toe to toe with any man. He might not have been racist but he surely had class prejudices.

Hercules was his own kind of guy. He just was a great problem solver. He was the son of god (the god, Zeus) and he tackled problems that would scare the most of us. An example is this lion that had skin so thick it could not be pierced with bullets or knives or not even sharp stones or pointed sticks. So what did he do? Him strangled it and then found a place to get his teeth under a skin edge and he skinned that lion with his bare teeth. And that reminds me of a rather simple fellow named Samson, but that is another story...
