Sure a piffle to a country worth $trillions, but even $100 billion here and there [and that doesn't include all costs] is real money to some people in such a wealthy country. <It only costs $100 billion a year to wage a war on drugs which is but a mere piffle to a wealthy country. Think of the employment it creates for lawyers, clerks and enforcement officers. > But is $100 billion all it costs? All the prison costs, courts and lost production and pain and suffering and disrupted lives and general encouragement of drugs.

But beware of the "broken windows fallacy" when saying how much employment it creates. Those people could have real jobs [and I guess you are joking about how much employment it creates but some might take you seriously]. And while you are kidding about $100 billion being a piffle for a wealthy country, as you know, being in debt for many $trillions is not necessarily being "wealthy".
