A) It greatly added to the unemployment accross the country.Even small dealer employ hir
B)It did not reduce their cost structure.Dealers are their only customers - it is how they make their money. After the 900 some unwound dealers were announced(one half of which were small Cadillac dealers) the trend which was hoped for - that being Cadillac buyers would go to big city Cadillac dealers so ithe model could copy that of Lexus - few points and big volume) it was noticed as an unintended consequence that rural luxury car buyers had instead chosen to buy Lincoln from the local dealer vs go into the city and do business on a non local basis). In their ultimate whisdom they added back over half of the previously closed dealers.
It was an opportunity to chnage their dealer body with out regard to the past state laws and it failed miserably - unitl reinstituted.

I agree to the purpose of BK procedures aleviating debt.

I do not believe the government anticipate getting the money back in full.

I am very close to this event and I do think the Government did the right thing by not just saving GM and Chrysler but they also saved all of the tier 1 and tier 2 parts makers that would have really created a huge unemployment problem - the likes of which we've never seen. This was uniformly supported by all foreign and domestic car makers.
