Allowing the free market to set wages is a foreign concept to some.

Imagine all the jobs and new business that would be created.

Really not that simple. In some states the minimum wage could be higher than others but it could also be less than most poorly paid jobs in that state. I wonder how many states there are with minimum wages below what a starting McDonalds worker makes.
