Well I read a book or two about google. Don't like buying stocks when I don't understand the company. I was impressed by their original culture. They had a weird culture that did value usability and design for awhile, but they started making the same idiotic mistakes AltaVista made, and even worse. So when Page came back I started watching them to see if there would be any changes. Nope just kept getting worse. There are two glaring mistakes they make in their flagship search engines: 1) googlemaps, literally every improvement has been a disaster. Default 45 degree views, no way to turn that off, inconsistent menus where terrain is only available some time and different times for different views. Sometimes pictures work sometimes they don't. Controls split up and in opposite corners to where one is constantly having to move the cursor the ENTIRE length of the page over and over and over. Controls that are needlessly hidden. A default location that only works sometimes when getting directions. 2) STANDARD SEARCH no advanced search link after doing a standard search. You literally have to bookmark it to find it again AND now you have to redo your search. Why they eliminated this link which was pretty much automatic is beyond me. There is just no rational explanation for it. Now in of themselves neither of these will derail the company, but they are such stone STUPID usabilty BEGINNER mistakes one has to look at this company and say "The management has no idea what business they are in." Their CORE business and they screw it up like that? How complicated is this problem?
