You do realize that the people in charge of the mainland won't take kindly to annexation? They have very severe punishment for anyone who steps out of line. VERY severe, including shooting in the back if trying to escape over the Tibetan mountains to India. < by annexation I mean move the HK rules to the mainlanders.> Any time the bosses of Beijing wish, they could photocopy the HK rules and announce that those are the new rules in the rest of China. Heck, these days they probably even have digital copies they could move instantly without bothering to do photocopying. It's not that they are lacking technology.

It would be fun though to see TJ show up at the border and announce that Hong Kong is annexing say 300 hectares of adjacent territory to incorporate in Hong Kong.

I am not sure you and MQ know that the HK and mainland relations are rule based.

Chapter 1, Article 5 of the Hong Kong Basic Law, the constitutional document of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, reads: “ The socialist system and policies shall not be practised in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and the previous capitalist system and way of life shall remain unchanged for 50 years."
It is not the HK of the British gunboating time. There are places on Eath that nations actually follow the law as opposed to those that give lip service.
