LETTER: Why Ron Paul is the best candidate

By BRAD SMITH

1/19/2012 12:30 PM

Former CIA Chief and bin Laden hunter Michael Scheuer explained on the Judge Napolitano show on Fox why he endorsed Ron Paul and why he believes Rep. Paul has the strongest stance on national defense.

Scheuer, who served in the CIA for 22 years and was head of the bin Laden Unit, warned that "if we attack, or if the Israelis attack Iran, there will be significant terrorism inside the United States", something that every candidate but Ron Paul have actively pushed for. Rick Santorum in particular has made it a focus of his campaign to immediately begin bombing Iran if elected President.

"The supporters of Israel in the United States are Israel's worst enemies.... They face no danger but they want to push Israel into wars. America has no problem with the Iranians, they are wholly contained, their energy industry is on the downhill slide, Dr. Paul is exactly right," Scheuer said.

Scheuer also defended Paul's constitutional approach of defending America, repudiating a common media talking point: "To say that Dr. Paul would not defend America is just an insane piece of dishonesty that belongs more properly in the Washington Post."

"If Mr. Paul was in our leadership, we'd have more friends around the world. Right now we seem to be eager to cultivate enemies.... And, I think Dr. Paul points out very clearly that intervening in other people's business creates a reaction which is negative to the interests of the United States." Scheuer said.
