Romney submitted 16,000 signatures, Paul submitted over 14,000. Gringrich had just over 10,000 but many of them turned out to be bogus. Perry showed up with 6,000, claiming his other 5,000 were missing. i.e., "The dog ate my signatures..."

A federal judge denied an injunction, then the federal appeals court did the same.
Maybe Newt will overrule the judges once he gets elected and tears up Article 3 of the Constitution, as he has promised.

The VA GOP didn't scrutinize the Romney and Paul signatures. They did the four other candidates.

you really need to get your facts straight....you are quite simply wrong

....romney's signatures weren't audited because he got over the 15000 threshold to avoid it, ron paul's were audited and he ended up with enough valid signatures....only romney and ron paul did what was necessary to make certain they had the VALID 10,000 signatures.....looks like the other 4 didn't bother reading the state BULLETIN and now they get to pay the price for their incompetence

Was the 10,000 signature deeming rule what both Perry and Gingrich had set as a goal fully expecting that 10,000 signatures was a guaranteed entrance into the race? A quick run through the Virginia State Board of Elections website finds a bulletin dated July 1st that includes an important recommendation (emphasis mine):

Must be signed by not less than 10,000 qualified voters in Virginia, including at least 400 qualified voters from each of Virginia=s eleven congressional districts, who attest that they intend to participate in the primary of the same political party as the candidate named on the petition. Because many people who are not registered to vote will sign a petition, it is recommended that 15,000 – 20,000 signatures be obtained with at least 700 signatures from each congressional district.
