Your definition of zealot as used here would describe a large percentage of the those posting here on a regular bases.

As to Ayn; One only needs understand her background to have some insight into what drove her ideologies. Perhaps any of us after living in Russia during the Bolsheviks time period as a Jew and in the end when her family lost everything in the final Communist takeover, we might have some empathy for her ideologies? I'm not suggesting for a second that I agree with her thinking - but to suggest she is anything but a great thinker is preposterous. She had insights because of what she lived through that today's Americans will absolutely never have.
