Spirit is the latin reference to "breath". Do I deny it? No. Do I say "bless you" when someone sneezed because I believe (without any rational grounds) that his life force, breath, or "spirit" is trying to leave his body? No? Might I have said that in pre-scientific days when the absence of breath (spirit) meant life was gone? Surely. Not knowing the nature of air, circulation, oxygen...LIFE--I would have thought that breath (or spirit) was an animating force with life of its own. But I know better now.

Of course I could imagine that this invisible breath has all sorts of invisible components. Indeed it does. And I think it is absolutely FANTASTIC that we continue to study "spirit" and other invisible things that exist with our instruments. Everything we have found in the invisible air so far have simply been elements of existence. We will keep looking and studying. As rational beings we ought to. Maybe instead of an oxygen molecule we will someday find an invisible demon. Wouldn't that be neat! But keep in mind that invisible things are invisible so it is just as likely to be an invisible donut, rock, unicorn, fairy, or lawyer.

"To deny spirit is short selling humanity."

I have never denied anything that exists. Neither did Edison. He actually did experiments trying to find the existence of something invisible that was not air--but failed...as all others have. If we find it, it will be an incredible phase of human history.

Good scientists are always open to the possibility of discovering new elements or unknown things. In the meantime, enjoy the things you have and the things you know.
