Your link doesn't work, but even from just the url I can see that the article blames a light iPad quarter on both the Kindle Fire and the popularity of the MacBook Air. Misrepresenting content again?

And once again I'll remind you that we don't have iPad figures yet. You are trying to prove a point by referring to speculation.

[edit]

DId a search and found the blog post you referred to. I see that you did misrepresent its content.

>>The Kindle Fire devastated the iPad's final Christmas.<<

By the way, is that devastation in iPad sales the same as the imploding iPhone sales somebody was talking about here as recently as the middle of December?

Shaw Wu dropped his estimate from 15 million iPads to 13.5 million. If that were true, and assuming that the two factors he named, Kindle Fire availability and Macbook Air popularity, were equally responsible for that "shortfall" would you consider that "devastation?"

Personally, I think 13.5 million iPads would be a very good number. It would match the consensus on the Street.

Do you really consider a 10% hit to sales "devestating?" I did not know you held Apple to such high standards. Personally, I would not be disappointed by 13.5 million iPads in the just ended quarter. It's a wonderful device, but I still see it as completely discretionary, at a time when $500 is a lot to spend on a luxury item.

As for your X-Mas 2012 prediction, I assume you are exaggerating. No matter what the unit numbers or share numbers will be, anyone who follows Apple knows they will not get into a price war to the extent that the iPad is unprofitable. It would be uncharacteristic for them to not lead the tablet industry in gross margin. Now if you mean that the profits from iPad will be insignificant next to the iPhone's profits, i might agree with you.

Digitimes suggests that Microsoft's orders for Surface could be "as high as 5 million" in 2012. This leaves plenty of room for other Windows 8/RT OEMs, Android tablets, and of course, the iPad. Gonna be an interesting Christmas.
