1. the year is 2012. It's not the 1900s, it's not the 1800s. Whatever good that the unions brought to the equation 100 years ago is lost due to corruption at the core of the unions.

2. The scariest and least productive coal mines I have been in are union mines. How many coal mines have you been in? I've been in at least 50 underground coal mines in a variety of states.

The facts are that in the past 20 years, there have been more deaths in non-union coal mines.
but
There have been significantly more non-fatal injuries in union mines.

From the 1960s to the 1990s, there were significantly more fatalities in union mines vs non-union mines.

So, what does that prove? not a damn thing.

3. As far as Alaska. Unions are not why there are high wages. Alaska is blessed with an abundance of natural resources and very few people to extract them. Businesses have to pay more to get people to work there. I have a brother who lives in Alaska and makes about twice what his counterparts in the lower 48 make and he does not have a union job.

Yes, back in the olden days we needed unions to get all of those work place standards. But today we no longer need unions at all!!! Today we have the government which passes all kinds of laws that give all workers a standard set of work place rights. All workers get these standard rights, so unions are no longer necessary or even beneficial. It is better if all workers get a standard set of rights rather than a different superior set for unionized workers. Unions these days cause the death of older corporations and for public sector destroy the finances of states, cities and counties.

On a job one time I watched 8 union guys take 2 days (128 man hours) to do something one of my guys could do in an hour and I could do in 20 minutes. And the union guys were bytching how no one could afford to build in the area. morons, so they make a little money for a few weeks and then nothing for months.

A customer of mine had a package deal with a big developer to build their 'stores' in like 20 locations, one was around detroit heavy union, usually I could get my company in those areas but not this time.

My customer said if they own that 'store' for 200 years they still wouldn't never recoup the construction costs
