iTunes U doesn't necessarily cost anything. It has been an icon at the bottom of iTunes on my iPad (7th from the left), and there are courses from Stanford on iPad and iPhone App Development (now updated to Fall 2011), many lectures from many schools, and courses on many subjects. Thursday this was split out from iTunes as a subset of iTunes U on a separate bookshelf for what you've downloaded. Maybe it was Friday as part of yesterday's iTunes software update.

The courses alone are justification to get an iPad IMO.

:-)
How long can an iPad last?
I'm thinking the Stock Pup has a funny answer for that last question.

Geez just when I was about to take a vow of chastity from posting frivolous remarks in order to build my street cred here...

I suppose the amount of time an iPad can last depends a lot upon how many times it's reused and how well it's cleaned between uses but to be more consice, in the words of Oracle when asked a similar question:

"as long as it can"

(In Matrix 3. )

I'm sorry - if you don't use it you lose it - is very true - imagine my response after abstinence from
non serious posts for a week !

Oh thank you thank you thank you - you saved me from something important of
mind being lost

I wonder what Apple charges a school system.

I have a friend that runs a special needs school and when they got them for about 50 kids the discount was tiny, like 5% or something.
