Everyone has a computer of some sort.

People with computers don't do pawnshops anymore, they do Craigslist and eBay. Pawnshops are for losers.

People still use pawn shops, much more than you would think. A buddy of mine started a chain of pawn shops, sold off the business, and is in the process of doing it all again. Recently, he took me into his vault to show me the items he was holding as collateral against loans, and I must say it was incredible. These were very high end expensive watches and jewelry, not junk.

Craigslist & ebay when selling, but pawn shops still get a lot of traffic for loans. (amazingly...to me.)

Happy Tet

hello cb ilaine, i did a search on "pawn shops booming" and it would appear that pawn shops are booming in some places, visited by winning buyers buying from losing ex-winners

pawn shops are also saving folks by providing them much needed jobs

we shall celebrate chinese new year 4710 of the water dragon by snacking on some goodies in a few hours, and then we, comprised of two grand ma's, maternal grand pa, mama, dada, erita and jack, along with our swiss german friends, shall partake in the local beach side chinese new year's party that be about a 50 meters (150 ft?) in one or the other direction. i like islands, they make directions easy.

the number of chinese lunar new year's parties on koh samui turns out to be a function that many folks on this thai island are of chinese origin for some reason ... the local guidebooks say the island was first settled by the chinese some 1500 years ago, in the year 3210, metal tiger. i checked with google and apparently the case.

speaking of tiger, jack, born of the year of the tiger, is having a ball, eating, sleeping, trying to keep up with the bigger kids, understanding much but able to say just dada, mama, nainai (paternal grandma), ata (for erita), asta (for pasta, actually meaning cheese). i am grateful that jack and erita gets to grow up with the grand parents living in the same neighborhood. just super.

jack likes food, and on the way here ate a whole adult portion of cheeses, crackers, grapes, walnuts, dried apricot, and his usual goats milk.

you say food, and jack goes ...

cheers, tj
