I have been to Antietam twice and loved it each time. It is especially nice in that it is in a remote area and not under severe threat of development. I have done a presentation on Antietam as the greatest lost opportunity of the Civil War. That preparation forced me to understand it to some extent. The fighting on Stonewall Jackson's front is for me the hardest to understand.

McClellan had an two opportunities to trap Lee against the Potomac when Lee's lines were twice broken - but he failed to act. Lee escaped and the war lasted 2 1/2 more years.
