The use of Napoleonic tactics ended during the war as the power of the rifled musket became clear. At the end of the war the trench warfare at Richmond/Petersburg was a precursor of WWI. Ah - and then there were the tactics of NB Forrest out east. Forrest truly changed the game.

Ah but to Dale's point - Hood at Franklin was completely moronic when he launched a bigger charge than Pickett against fixed fortifications and was slaughtered. Patrick Cleburne, the Stonewall of the West, died at Franklin.
