Some of the buggy whip salesmen moved on to related industries. They probably sold upholstery to the auto industry. The ice business has shrunk to where there is virtually no competition. I doubt if buggy wheel manufacturers fared any better.

One of my great-grandfathers used to build buggies, his brother crafted the wheels and another the buggy whips. Another g-grandfather (named Simon) had a saloon. He lasted in business longer than the other ones. ;)
