SEC charges Palm Harbor man with accounting fraud

Tampa Bay Business Journal
Date: Thursday, January 5, 2012, 9:51am EST

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filed an action, accusing JBI Inc. of engaging in a scheme to commit securities and accounting fraud.

The complaint, filed in federal court in Massachusetts, also names John Bordynuik, JBI’s chief executive officer, and Ronald Baldwin Jr., former chief financial officer. Baldwin lives in Palm Harbor.

The defendants are accused of stating materially false and inaccurate financial information on the financial statements of JBI for two reporting periods in 2009, and using the overvalued financial statements in two private capital-raising efforts that raised more than $8.4 million, a statement said.

The SEC is seeking permanent injunctions, disgorgement and civil penalties.
