Umm, I have a fair understanding of the technology. I meant that the piece mostly concerns a particular design costing assessment at a particular point in time; it's not so much concerned with the technology of future Rambus designs as this guy's assessment of the previous generation's suitability for his product.

Particularly outdated: the "pins cost $.nn, RDRAM saves m pins, costs x" discussion. Manufacturers of mass-market products face a combinatorial cost explosion in attempting to push the parallel memory interface past 32 bits; while the design of the serial lines for DRDRAM has some issues because of the high frequency, for mass production the savings in layers and pins is more than worth it. Rambus has done the engineering and provides standard designs to keep design-in costs down; the competing solutions have yet to demonstrate working solutions.

I understand you're trying to provide the leavening needed to keep the cheerleading here down to a reasonable level, but the assessment is outdated.
