I didn't watch the SoTU last night. Personally, I'd rather be water-boarded.

But, from what I've heard about his criticism of mortgage lending practices (and from what you wrote here), I suspect I would have lost significant sleep last night, had I watched.

The only 'real' job this president ever held before his election to the senate in Illinois was as a 'community organizer' (i.e., it was his charge to rally and ignite the 'underprivileged' of Chicago to demand more and better government services. One of the major services for which he pushed, and organized others to push, was more access to home ownership for those with low-incomes).

He was an avid supporter of Bill Clinton's Community Reinvestment Act, whose primary focus was pressuring banks to issue mortgages to low-income citizens by lowering their standards in issuing those mortgages.

I am not asserting that the banks were innocent 'spectators' in the housing crash, but politicians (and 'community organizers'), and unconstitutional laws that were passed as a result of incessant pressures from Obama, Frank, and their ilk, were at least as much to blame for the ill-issued mortgages.

For those same 'champions of the underdog' (champions only to the degree that it helps their personal and political agenda) to now be calling for punitive action and investigations is hypocrisy of the highest order. And the sad fact is that the majority of the American people have no clue that these self-righteous hypocrites were largely to blame for the mess for which they are now demanding that heads should roll.
