Here is what too many people never think of. None of us are racist I am sure. But we are members of a society that destroyed and tortured the African American culture, family and deprived them of eduction.for about 400 years. There were multiple societies that had responsibility for the enslavement of Africans. Including quite a few Africans. But what about the whites who were enslaved in America? You did know that there were white people who were enslaved who were not indentured, right? How do you make right by the whites who were enslaved by our society? Do you give restitution to all white people too? So our society has a responsibility to correct that and make amends for that; and it is in the best interest of both the individual and society. Our society had a responsibility to correct and make amends to the individuals who were wronged. But here's the problem. Anybody who was directly affected by slavery is dead. And even if they weren't dead, there really isn't any way to make restitution. But it is a stretch to say that all blacks who are alive today deserve special treatment because of slavery in this country that ended 150 years ago. Oh, and let's not forget that not all blacks are descendents of slaves. And that a vast majority of americans didn't have ancestors who were involved in slavery. One example of a black american who isn't a descendent of slaves is Barack Obama. In fact, his ancestors were very likely part of the slave trade in Africa. On another note, every large ghetto in America has kids who could fill up many of the major univerisiteis in the nation. It is in our societies best interest to go get those kids out of the ghetto and into the universities. I love the idea of every kid going to college. However, giving a kid special treatment because of his race does him no favor. In fact, it hinders race relations AND job equality to have affirmative action for education and jobs. It is impossible to not assume that minorities are less qualified because the admissions are relaxed for them. It is an insult to minorities to tell them that they are not smart enough to get into colleges without special treatment. And the way to start, is countrywide free pre schools with breakfast. AdnI know the ghetto as well as anyone and the capabilities of the ghettos kids. They just need some tools (study habits) and confidence. I don't believe that you know the ghetto as well as anyone. My brother in law is here in my home office right now going through my closet looking for "white nerd dood" cloths for a joke fashion show at work. See, he is an ex-Crip (that's a gang). My BIL is my best friend. We joke about this race relation stuff all the time. When we watch boxing or MMA, we always play the race card (I get the white guy, he gets the black guy...or we end up going with darker/lighter skin or trunks if they are the same race). His daughter is a straight A student. He's making sure that affirmative action isn't how she gets into college (we have plans for my son and his daughter to be roomies in college. As cousins, they are also best friends). I don't think you know the ghetto as good as anyone. You are too detached from reality to know what really goes on. But finally, what you fail to understand is that affirmative action is not only racist in its bias towards giving benefits to minorities. It is also racist in affixing blame to whites. Because some whites have responsibility for slavery does not mean that all whites did. In fact, it is the majority of whites who ended slavery. Do you understand that? Why should they be punished for something that they actively worked to end? I repeat: You cannot cure racism with racism And you can't remedy slavery by taking from those who had nothing to do with it and giving to those who did not suffer from it. And don't forget about the white slaves in america, How are you going to remedy that? <<Even recently, the first thing Jeb Bush did when elected governor of Florida was get rid of affirmative action.
