Courtenay/Comox is beautiful - Denman Island, nice coastal area and Mt Washington. Up island so it's wetter than Victoria. Mt Washington is an old fashioned resort, not jazzed up like Whistler. They just changed the land user rules allowing private ownership of land on the mountain, so I guess it'll change. Snow is pretty good for the coldest part of the winter - often has the highest skiing base on the coast. Northern Vancouver Island is slow economically and land/house prices have come down dramatically. One of those magical places you can sail, golf, ski on the same day.
