My tenth grade English teacher let us read Ian Fleming novels for book reports, appealed to the boys.

The book that made the most sense to me at that age was Salinger's Catcher in the Rye. His take on the phoniness of the adult world was like finding a friend who could teach me some essentials. But I have no idea how it would sound/feel to high school students today.
