And I hope they keep working this business model. In many cases, Apple makes as much or more off selling additional memory for the chosen device to buyers. Why would they want to diminish that source of cash flows by allowing users to simply pull out a microSD card and move it to their new device purchased with a minimal amount of NAND? Currently, all of that NAND in the old device just gets thrown away....

I wish every other smart phone manufacturer followed the same business model. Don't hate them for being clever. I only regret they aren't buying from Sandisk for the iPhone or iPad. Both devices are frequently replaced either because the battery has become useless or a simple desire for the latest gadget. I know, I have replaced a number of Apple devices in my household and it is almost always because of one of those two reasons.
