My life is protected when government enforces regulation in the food industry…

That's not my take, Steve. I've worked in the foodservice industry for the past twenty five years.

From the horses mouth, when I've asked about enforcing regs., I've been told by FDA employees, that THEY reply on competitors to snitch.

THEN, they come in and act like they've discovered the bad nasties.

I fear you've been listening to the princess of smarm and that same meme she espouses.

My life is protected when government enforces regulation in the food industry or by regulating planes - and who can get on them.

regulations make the food less safe. people know how to get around a lot of them. the ones they don't get around are seldom enforced. and when they are enforced, the fine is too little or too much. worse, when people get sick, the company can just say they were in compliance with all federal regulations. they know they'll be inspected afterwards, and they'll clean everything up. the company shifts the blame to the FEDs instead of their own reputation suffering. at least their reputation doesn't suffer near as much. a company would have it's survival on the line with it's reputation in a free market. with government regulation, they don't.

government is not there to regulate businesses. it's there to protect you from 'enemies'.. foreign and domestic. enemies that intend to harm you for a political or some other reason. they aren't there to protect you from accidents of any type. you're supposed to handle that on your own.

The government protects my property (my stocks for instance) by making sure we have a level playing field and banks and such have laws they need to follow - disclosure laws.

the government doesn't protect your stocks from anything. they want you to think they do. JP Morgan rescued the his stock holders and the industry because he wanted to save his reputation. the government wouldn't have done that back then. and they shouldn't be doing it now. it leads to disaster. all these messes are because of government regulation.

Without this the list of Madoffs becomes endless and the capitalistic markets don't exist as investments but as gambling dens.

on the contrary, without 'this', there would be far fewer madoffs. lots of people knew madoff was a crook and were warning about him long before he got caught. ask the people who got ripped off if they think the government protected them. if people knew they had no government protection, reputation would again be very important to everyone. that's how it used to be before government got involved. there would still be snake oil salesmen but there would be far fewer of them and they'd be less successful. the industry regulated itself much better than before the government got involved.

My rights are protected by a government that is suppose to prevent fraud from becoming a way of life.

fraud wouldn't be a way of life without government 'protection'. there's more fraud WITH government protection.

You might like to return to the days of lawlessness (read a book about San Francisco before the earthquake of 1906 for instance), but not me.

we are better off with laws. i never said we don't need laws. we simply don't need governments (especially the federal government) involved in our daily lives, telling what we can buy and what we can eat.

"Without this the list of Madoffs becomes endless"
It appears to be endless with it also.

"and the capitalistic markets don't exist as investments but as gambling dens. "

isn't that what we have?
