WINDSOR, Ont. — The odd — and, to some, odious — sport of dwarf tossing has come to the fore in Windsor, Ont. Leopard’s Lounge & Broil, a strip club, is hosting the event Saturday night. The contest is to see who can catapult a small-statured human through the air the farthest. Former Windsor West Liberal legislative member Sandra Pupatello — when she was still in Opposition and before she became an eight-year influential member of cabinet — tried to get the provincial government to outlaw dwarf tossing about a decade ago. “There’s nothing provincially, and no bylaws here, that would prevent this from going on,” said Coun. Ron Jones, who was alerted to the upcoming event by an angry constituent. The event is being promoted on a sign outside the club. “This is something the province has to look at,” said Jones. With the province showing no interest in restricting or regulating the small-person toss, he sees no reason why the municipality should intervene. “A person has a right to make a living,” said Jones. Far from being forced to participate, Jones said the human projectile in question has his own agent. “If the person being tossed was being tossed against his will, then it’s a human rights issue, and I’d be all over it,” he said. “If you don’t want to go and see it, you don’t have to go and see it.” Windsor Star torontosun.com
