Just received a newsletter from my (small,local) provider, AWOD in Charleston SC Newsletter to our customers, November/December 1997 Topics covered in this edition: ÿÿÿ 56K modems ÿÿÿ Line Expansions ÿÿÿ News Server Upgrade ÿÿÿ Editor's wrapup ---------------------------------------------------------- 56K MODEMS. The selection of an industry standard for 56k modems is drawing to a conclusion.ÿ Industry experts believe that a standard will be chosen sometime in the next 2 to 3 months.ÿ When this happens, the cost of 56k modems will drop significantly. The cost of upgrading to 56k modems on our end is also affected significantly.ÿ In just the past 4 months the cost of upgrading all of our existing lines to 56k has dropped by more than 60%.ÿ Our original estimate last June was nearly $350,000.ÿ It is now down to around $150,000. This clearly makes the project more cost effective, however it will have to be completed in several sections over a number of months. The channel has become kind of agressive. I better do not comment. Don't wanna be flamed ... :o)
