You haven't kept up. In the current classification the Family Hominidae includes great apes and humans. There are plenty of .edu sites that confirm this. One example is the University of Michigan.

At one time the family Hominidae contained only humans. The apes were in a different family. After 1980 as a result of new discoveries the classifications were revised. Gorillas, chimps, humans and orangutans now make up the Family Hominidae.

We didn't evolve from apes but we do have a common ancestor that was ape-like. Probably we should be classified as apes along with the other members of Hominidae.
