Maher: Brewer's Beef With Obama Came About Because We "Permit Negroes To Read"
Posted on January 28, 2012

On his HBO show "Real Time" this week host Bill Maher said Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer had a problem with President Obama because of his race. Maher said Brewer thinks "these are the kind of problems that arise when we permit negroes to read."

Maher later added that Brewer felt threatened because Obama was going to "buy the house next door." Read the transcript below.

Bill Maher, host of "Real Time" on HBO: Have you saw the drama this week, right? With Obama on the tarmac in Arizona and the Governor, Jan Brewer, did you see that?

So here's what happened: Jan Brewer, Governor of Arizona, went to see Obama in the White House about the border and stuff a couple of years ago. And after the meeting she said it went really well, he was a great guy, very cordial. Then she wrote a book about it and said 'asshole.'

So Obama gets off the plane in Arizona and she rushes off him, unannounced, with the letter saying 'I want you to talk to me again, invite me to the Oval Office and …' Obama said, you know, 'What happened? I read your book.'

This is what everybody is talking about. Look at that (Image of Brewer's finger in Obama's face). Right to the President of the United States. Now, Jan Brewer says she regrets the confrontation, but these are the kind of problems that arise when we permit negroes to read.

She also said, I swear to God, this is the quote -- today she said, or yesterday she was interviewed about this, she said she felt a 'little bit threatened.'

Really? On the tarmac in broad daylight? By the -- what was he going to do, deck her? Or buy the house next door? I mean, wow. Lord help this woman if she ever runs into a really scary black guy like Wayne Brady or Urkel.

I agree with this...but I think we must stay focused on criticizing failed policies...not the man or his wife...
