I've just started reading a book called The Sparrow, by Mary Doria Russell. It's a sci-fi novel about the discovery of an inhabited planet only 17 years away from earth, and a disastrous mission to that planet undertaken by the Jesuits.

So far, it's fascinating. There's a sequel, too, called Children of God.
