There where riots in the UK mainly in response to actions by the police, esp. en.wikipedia.org As for cutbacks, in the topline there was no cut back, just a continuation of the upward trend. ukpublicspending.co.uk Even if the total spent actually had gone down (and it didn't) it still wouldn't be austerity with that amount of spending.
