likability can also just be a facade, esp with politicians. Look at Obama, Hitler and Caligula.

Yes, likeability can be just a facade. Doesn't mean it's not necessary for success. Obama, Hitler and Caligula all appeared very likeable in the early stages of their fame. Obama still does to nearly half the country.

Newt's personality comes off as a bomb-thrower with a glass jaw, who whines when he's hit back effectively. That's not likeable. It's clear that Romney decided to hit Newt hard and get under his skin...and he has succeeded. Newt has been whining all weekend about Romney's "lies". Bad move.
