I've thought about this division between people a lot, and this is my own personal opinion, but I have come to the conclusion that it was his supporters who turned me off to Mitt Romney. I didn't know much about him before this whole running for president process started, but I did in fact support him when he was running for president in '08. Because McCain won the nomination, which I found very disappointing, I didn't get a chance to vet Mitt Romney. I love a spirited and honest debate but what I've seen happen this year and what really turned me against Mitt Romney were the highly personal attacks made through his campaign and through his pacs against Newt Gingrich. Those ads have been very mean spirited in tone and content and like most people, I don't like the policy of personal destruction. I have always followed Newt Gingrich's career............I have read several of his books, I have read all the negative and positive article about him I could find, and I developed a lot of respect for him when he was in congress. I respected the way he was taking on the liberals and balancing the budget, so I have to reiterate...........what I have seen Mitt Romney and his supporters do to him through ads in such mean spirited and in some cases factually dishonest ways is what has turned me against Mitt Romney. I guess what I'm trying to say is people can dislike another person, but I expect my potential president to be more dignified and respectful. I just had to drive down to the bank and Romney was being interviewed on the Sean Hannity radio show. He was asked a question about the attacks on Gingrich and his comments about his time in congress were just factually wrong. Because I have done such in depth research, to hear what he said makes him appear to be either very uniformed or deliberately distorting history. The only one responsible for that distortion is Romney. I don't know why he does it, and I wish he wouldn't, but it is dishonest and being that way will not win him any support. I do hope you stay around because I know you have something to contribute to this conversation.
