By International law, a muster drill is required to be held with all cruise ship passengers on all cruise ships within the first 24 hours, but Princess Cruise Lines conducts the muster drill before we leave the dock and set sail... we report to our muster stations and fit our life jackets so everything is already prepared in case we really need to jump ship... we're taught how to enter the water, it all takes about an hour which includes some lessons from the ship's officers and a lecture of its obvious importance by the ship's Captain... we've done the drill so many times and we've also sailed our own personal sailing vessel in the open seas for weeks at a time, so we're very familiar with the requirements and practices, thank goodness we've never had to apply it, but we do know the drill... but on a cruise ship, there are always first time passengers who are clueless and they need to learn the primary life safety drill and proper methods just in case things go very wrong... when you're at sea, you can't just pull over to the side of the road...

Sailing the Caribbean waters should not be a problem, the waters are protected by the islands themselves so the seas really can't get too high, even during a hurricane... but, we've been out in open water in the north Atlantic off Iceland and Greenland in storms with 60 foot seas and hurricane force winds, now that was a ride to remember...<g>
