Thread,
here's another data point for you with respect to the Unemployment Rate and how it is a manipulated figure. You see, the BLS uses a "birth/death of businesses" adjustment factor in their calculation. Evidently, for the last several years, this adjustment factor has ended up adding an average 400K fictitious jobs throughout the year, which are then backed out in the January of the subsequent year. It's manipulation pure and simple.

Here's the bottom line. We're about to see 400K jobs disappear in the January adjustment. Unemployment is currently 8.5% (13M unemployed / 153M labor force...see bls.gov). So that means that the Unemployment Rate is going to increase by 0.2% to 8.5%, unless a bunch of jobs were added to offset that in January.

That's not good when our government manipulates figures consistently to make things look better than they actually are. Between "hedonics", optimistic birth/death adjustments, and not counting long term unemployed, I'm beginning to think either we have idiots running the statistics department in the government or we have purposeful propagandists running it.
