<<I actually agree with you that in most cases the problem is the parents. That is exactly why throwing more money at the system will fail. If the parents don't value education and set a good role model, then head start or community colleges won't make a difference.>>

Look, I was born and raised in Richmond California which is exactly like Washingon DC. We had many community colleges in the area and I saw thousands of kids attend them after high school. And almost all of them went on to get advanced degrees. My cousin Ronnie, whos parents did not want him to go to college, but get a job as they felt he was lazy-lol, got his PHD in entomology and is a world famous expert on spiders. They call him spider man. He has published many articles on alpine spiders-lol?

I saw two gang leaders transfer to UC Berkeley and get degrees in accounting-lol? Most of my high school friends were saved by those community colleges and went on to have great lives because of the eduction the got.

I saw it with my own eyes. So I know its value.

<<Perhaps you should follow your reasoning to its logical conclusion. Since the parents are the problem, remove the children from the homes. I am sure that the state can raise them better. Bring back orphanages.>>

My main degree is in psychology and that is the worst thing you can do. A parents love is the most stabilizing thing there is psychologically. Maybe they don't know how to educate the kids, but they can love them and keep them stable and society can do the education.

The reverse of that was when one of my daughters was in second grade. The teacher knew nothing, but she just loved my daugther and was full of love, so I liked that and let her love my daughter that year and I did the teaching-lol.

Love is as important as education.
