I am pretty sure Romney will lose- and the writer charitably overlooks Romney's huge religious problem with the republican base. Big issue. Huge. I mean they are probably hypocritical enough to think a cultist might be better than a *secret* Muslim (because that's what the wingnuttiest think), but they aren't going to get excited and go out and vote for him.

Romney belongs to a Big Government church. No one runs your life like the Mormon church. I don't think there are many churches in America that are as fanatically concerned with every aspect of their adherents' lives. They micromanage everything from day care through dating and marriage. It's a bureaucratic machine- and Romney was formed by it. This is no small government guy. It's too funny that the squalling Tea party freaks are now going to be stuck with a big government republican cultist. Gingrich would have made them happy, even if he'd lost, they would have known they fought the Good Fight. With Romney they're all gonna wind up feeling dirty and compromised. Couldn't happen to a better set of people.

Ezra Klein's Wonkbook

Klein still makes more sense than just about anyone else. And his reference to George Packer's argument also makes sense. One of the most interesting elements in this election season is not only who wins but the lessons learned from such. Packer is right on, in my view.
