What passes for center right today is just over the cliff edge. The center has moved this far left because we have allowed the Republican party to take our votes for granted.

Here is a snip from Thomas Sowell (a national treasure) on Newt vs. Romney:
//...Is this a gamble? The painful reality is that everyone in this year's field of Republican candidates is a gamble. And re-electing Barack Obama is an even bigger gamble.
Whichever candidate the Republican voters finally choose from this year's field, they are bound to have reservations, if not fears. Gingrich's worst could be worse than Romney's worst, both as a candidate and as a president. But Gingrich's best is much better than Romney's best.

Sometimes caution can be carried to the point where it is dangerous. When the Super Bowl is on the line, you don't go with the quarterback who is least likely to throw an interception. You go with the one most likely to throw a touchdown pass.//

In spite of my reservations re Newt, particularly in regard to his vicious, over-the-top, in-his-own-voice criticisms of Romney leading up to the FL primary, I think I have to hope for the touchdown.

Center right meaning non-conservative. This country is 40% conservative and 20% liberal but conservatives are treated like THEY'RE the fringe.

If we end up with a Republican President that governs like a watered-down, slightly more 'sensible' Obama, it will mean the deserved death of the Republican party. Third party time. As a replacement for the 'center-right' party.

What has 40 years of moderates gotten this country ? on the edge of collapse. So 8 more years of a moderate will be good ?
