Evangelicals are deathly afraid of Mormons- and it is different. Mormons are an invasive species. They come to your door- in pairs! Scary Mormons. They are, imo, very different from Catholics. Catholics have a long- very long- religious tradition- longer than the protestants. The Mormons are like jumped up Scientologists. Even Islam is at least historically respectable. I think in this case you are very very wrong in reading the potential visceral response to Mormons. And democrats elected a Black man with help from centrists. You are talking about republicans, with Romney. He's not going to get many votes from the folks who elected Obama. Especially if he keeps saying things like he did this morning "I'm not worried about the very poor..." Yeah. We got that already.
