You make some interesting points, GZ. When I think of what it means to be an American, I think of the assent of a unique culture formed from the best traditions of European immigrants to the country. There is a rich heritage of English, Scottish, Irish/Celtic, Welsh, French, German, Scandinavian, Nordic, Italian, Polish, Russian, and numerous others from Europe.

As for the original English colonizers, they are often demonized for conquering North America from the Indians, but a dispassionate view of history reveals that the Indians (Native Americans) were often ruthless in their inter-tribal warfare with the various tribes across the Americas. If we go back even further, we really don't know much about whom the original Asians displaced as they crossed into Alaska and moved southward into the Americas.

Consequently, I don't place much emphasis on one race wronging another race. Humans spread out and conquer others. It's what we do. The strong survive, and the weak are replaced.

The problem that I see with western civilization today is that our governments artificially sustain the weak at the expense of the strong. Wealth is redistributed from taxpayers to the weakest elements who immediately give the money back to corporations and the government. So, taxpayers like you and I are used a conduit/siphon by the government and large corporations to take even more money from us (taxes), all in the name of "helping the poor".
