I accept that there are very basic things we don't know, and have no desire to find or invent comforting stories that don't really answer those questions anyway.

That's the zone in which most of these theologians work, the ones who accept that as a beginning point for theology. Kierkegaard uses his concept of dread/angst to point to the experiential basis of this beginning point and his "knight of faith" as the ordinary person who can live within that zone. Genuinely tough stuff.

I always see it through Camus' use of Sisyphus slightly smiling as he climbs back up the rock pile to roll another one down.
