I apologize for being bemused, but I don't think the point you're discussing is actually knowable. You can survey people, but you probably would run into the issue that used to make black candidates often poll better that they'd do in actual elections- people want to say the right thing in surveys, but they vote more in line with how they really feel. Everybody's different, and it's nice that some evangelical leaders are expressing a message of tolerance, but I don't have the general impression that evangelicals in the political realm are really, truly, tolerant. Though I have the impression that Jesus was.

Anyway, evangelicals will probably vote mainly for Romney, they may not be positively motivated, but they will have negative motivation aplenty in this first post-Citizens United presidential election. I hope Romney does better that the 0.1% positive ads he did in Florida, but people stick with what works.
