I agree. Have you ever read Sowell's book 'The Vision of the Anointed: Self-Congratulation as a Basis for Social Policy'? In it he describes Johnson's Great Society...... The way Johnson got the bill passed was by declaring that if welfare didn't have its intended effect then the program would be canxed and other ideas would be tried. When they implemented the bill they literally sent teams of welfare agents into poor urban areas to get people to sign up. Well, several years later, poverty hadn't improved one iota even after dumping billions of dollars at it. Johnson, of course never kept his word to have the program rescinded and since then we've been increasing welfare support most years. Percent of poverty before Johnson was around 14% which is just about what the rate is today. Oh, I forgot to mention, before Johnson, poverty in America had been trending down for years......
