I found it "battery draining" has a lot of to do with ROM/Firmware tuning and application software tuning. My HTC Thunderbolt (original battery -1400 mAh) now can last one and half day with a light use/sync vs. my initial battery life of 6 hour at the most. Why? I rooted the phone and updated my phone with those custom-made cooked ROMs. Then I tuned my phone with less "Sync" with various application software. I.E. Gmail application was defaulted to sync 4 days of Gmail form with your carrier. I made it only sync one day. It immediately saves my battery life by as much as 30%. Then I checked and tuned various application sync. functions. Even if you do not root your Android phone, by adjusting "Sync" setting on Gmail itself already saved so much battery life. Please do so to see it makes any difference. Go to GMail, Menu, Settings, Account Settings, your own account, Sync Inbox and Labels.
