I'd like to see that test; between their tax plans and social issue positions, no one in the Republican field ever offered me a viable alternative. It's a party of orthodoxy with degrees of difference inside the rigidly drawn limit (the line that would open them to the center).

If Mitt flip-flops on stuff for the general he will look like a clumsy fool, and the press will be all over him. And if he runs on the stance he has taken now, he will have little to offer the swing voters except cut the government, give everything to the rich and hope some crumbs trickle down. Screw the minorities and the poor for the losers they are, etc.

People voted that down in 2008. I think they will do it again, if we get a similar turnout. I only see Romney winning if the purist lefties stay home in droves and give Romney a 2010 electorate to play to.
