Facebook/POLITICO Poll Finds Trump Endorsement Was Net Negative For Mitt Romney
by Josh Feldman | 9:44 am, February 5th, 2012
» 7 comments Mitt Romney easily won Nevada last night, but this past week has also been notable for Romney thanks to a surprise last-minute endorsement by famed recluse Donald Trump. Trump has now promised to drop the whole notion of running as an independent for the presidency if Romney ends up being the Republican nominee. But having the association between the two businessmen may not be working in Romney’s favor.

A poll released by Facebook and POLITICO over the weekend reaffirms what previous polls have told us already: having Donald Trump’s name attached to your candidacy can only do more harm than good. Only 9.6 percent of those polled said they thought Trump’s association with Romney gave them a positive view of the candidate, compared to 41.4 percent saying it gave them a negative view. 49 percent said it didn’t matter either way to them, but the net difference between the positives and negatives is definitely significant. The poll surveyed over 1000 Nevada Republican voters on Facebook.

The poll was taken before the Nevada race was decided, so the effect of Trump’s endorsement on Romney’s double-digit victory last night is unclear.

The Presidential nomination process is very destructive. I don't think a purely democratic process (which is decidedly NOT what the GOP uses) is the answer either. The issue is very important but too many vested interests benefit from the status quo and will not allow anything to change.
