US voters have short memories, but the memory of the disastrous Bush/Cheney period is still strong enough for the idea of a return to those policies to have very limited appeal. Couple that with high level of unattractiveness of Romney and Gingrich, and Obama looks set for a second term.

BTW the "tremendous damage" to the US accumulated well before Obama became president. He has been rather too timid for my taste in addressing the underlying causes, but in his defense the Republicans decided at the outset to oppose him on every front in their determination to make him a on-term president. Their obstructionism did have the effect of laming him, but it will not prevent his re-election.
